Mill View Cemetery |
| Location: West side of the former Bold Spring Road, present Cumberland County, Virginia, Secondary Route 654, approximately two and a half miles south of U.S. Route 60. It is on the grounds of Covance Research Products, Inc. (formerly HRP, Inc.). Under the escort of Mr. Ron Bumgardner on April 18, 1997, Page Hurt Clark, Gregory Pastor and the author discovered sixteen sites - seven that were marked with fairly modern tombstones - about a quarter of a mile west of the present company headquarters. The site is fenced in by old wire identical to the fencing that orginally enclosed Hobson's Chapel burying ground. A blanket of periwinkle, so familiar to old burying places, completely covers the plot. Old boxwood is now as tall as trees, and ivy has climbed to the tree's upper branches. While the grave sites of Benjamin Hobson and his wife Sally Woodson Hatcher Hobson were not found, it is possible that they are among those marked by head and foot stones, now old weather-beaten foot-high protrusions. |
