Mary E. Bradley Morris

        Mary Elizabeth Morris, daughter of the late Cleveland and Phoebe Bradley was born in Powhatan County, VA on January 17, 1920. She was reared in a home with seven sisters and three brothers.

        She was converted, baptized and joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Powhatan at an early age and maintained her membership there throughout her life.

        She attended the public schools in Powhatan County and graduated from Pocahontas High School.

        In the year of 1940 she was joined in holy matrimony to Mr. Carl Morris of the Mohemenco community where she made her home and reared her family. She was the proud mother of two sons, Jerome (deceased) and Wayne; and two daughters, Kay and Denise. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and sister.

        She departed this life in the early morning hour of Tuesday, September 6, 1988 at Johnston Willis Hospital, Richmond, VA after being there for less than 24 hours.

        She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband, Mr. George Carl Morris of Powhatan, VA.; a son, Wayne B. Morris of Powhatan, VA.; two daughters, Kay A. Wilson of Jamaica, NY; and Denise V. Morris of Richmond, VA.; four grandchildren, Samuel Bigelow of Powhatan, VA.; Jerri Morris-Miller of Rochester Hills, MD.; Michael Morris of Temple Hills, MD.; and Orlando Wilson of Jamaica, NY.; two brothers, Raymond and Franklin Bradley of Powhatan, VA.; six sisters, Nancy Jenkins and Maude Mumford of Richmond, VA.; Ruth Harper and Lillian Slayton of Philadelphia, PA.; Estelle Miles of Eastport, NY.; and Ellen Finney of Mitchellville, MD.; one uncle, Edward Bradley of Pittsburgh, PA.; two aunts, Grace B. Trent of Powhatan, VA.; and Elizabeth Lewis of Philadelphia, PA.; five sisters-in-law, Alice Bradley, Ellen Williams, Alice Whittaker, Virginia Sadler and Annie Royal, all of Powhatan, VA.; eight brothers-in-law, James Miles of Eastport, NY.; Essex Finney of Mitchellville, MD.; William Harper of Philadelphia, PA.; Edward Jenkins of Richmond, VA.; Earl and Ivory Morris of Powhatan, VA.; Henry and Elton Morris of Elizabeth, NJ.; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.





A heart of gold stopped beating,
Two shining eyes at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove,
He only takes the best.
