Wallace A. Brown

        Wallace A. Brown, 449 Henry Street, Elizabeth, NJ, son of the late Andrew J. Brown and Ellen Hall Brown departed this life November 5, 1981 at the Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elizabeth, NJ.

        He was born September 16, 1913 in Mohemenco, Virginia. He attended the Mohemenco School in his early childhood. He joined the Greenbrier Baptist Church at an early age. As a young man, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corp. He was an ambulance driver and received many meritorious awards in the service.

        After the death of his parents, he was a surrogate father to his younger sisters and brothers. In 1941 he moved to Elizabeth, NJ and worked for the Allen Industrial Corp. in Linden, NJ until his retirement. He was a charter member of the Friendly Twelve Social Club of Elizabeth, NJ.

        He is survived by his living wife Edna Morris Brown, his devoted God-daughter, Geraldine Key of Somerset, NJ., a brother, Herman Brown Sr., of Powhatan, VA.; five sisters Gay Rose of Tenafly, N.J., Delcenia Brown of Medford, N.J., Doris Brown of Hillside, N.J., Jola Roy of Hampton, VA., and Gwendolyn Pettiford of East Orange, N.J., an aunt, Mrs. Eva Denly of Cambria Heights, NY., four sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law, many devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

        He was loved by all that knew him. His welcome mat was always out at his home and many entered his door. He bore his illness with dignity and quietly slipped away, We will miss him greatly.


I cannot say, and I will not say
That he is dead. He is just away!

With a cheery smile and a wave of the hand
He has wandered into an unknown land.

And left us dreaming how very fair
It needs must be, since he lingers there.
